RealConnect announced today it has reached a new milestone in its continuous network improvement. RealConnect has finished its full deployment at one of the top quality exchange points of presence on the East Coast.
In a continuous effort to bring the highest quality and reliability to its customers, RealConnect has completed this new public peering presence where RealConnect can now establish direct peer connection with various other networks, and thus providing the direct benefit of a shorter path to all its customers.
On the Internet, for example, most data packets need to go through several routers before they reach their final destination. Each time the packet is forwarded to the next router, a hop occurs. And as the number of hops increases, it takes longer for data to go from source to destination.
Daniel Ouellet, RealConnect's Chief Technical Officer explains that "a critical part of a network's quality can be found in its peering connections with other network providers. RealConnect achieved this several years ago, but only via multi-home networks with multiple first class Tier 1 providers. Today, RealConnect reaches another milestone by establishing its own presence in a first class exchange center where RealConnect can establish direct connections with other ISP's".
In a peering arrangement, each ISP creates a direct link with one another and agrees to forward each other's packets directly across this link instead of using the standard Internet backbone. This peering relationship allows packets to travel directly between the two ISP's. In general, this results in faster access since there are fewer hops and larger bandwidth available between the two.
Stay tuned for future development on the peering front from RealConnect.
